Factory Fire Clean Up and Contents Restoration

Restoration Summary NLR was notified after a fire in a factory had completely halted work and caused significant damage to the structure and the inventory. The factory management had significant production quotas to meet and was keen to save whatever inventory could be restored, and restart factory operations as soon as possible. To satisfy the needs of the job, the NLR Restoration team had to remove soot from all the walls and ceiling, assess the inventory for salvageable items, clean and restore what could be saved, and collaborate with the builders working to fix the structural issues in the building. The first priority though, was making the area safe and helping production restart. Because of the size of the job, and the significant speed requirements, NLR brought on extra restoration technicians and divided them into teams for the project. Within a couple of days, the factory had been restored to almost full production, with the factory workers continuing their jobs alongside the restoration technicians. The project manager, Jacob Wright, then undertook the gigantic task of cleaning the entire inside of the factory. Over a couple of weeks, NLR had scrubbed every wall free of soot, assessed and restored all the inventory to a salable condition. The clients were extremely pleased with the results, and both the insurance company and the factory management was happy with the result NLR was able to deliver. Delays to the production schedule and disruption to the factory clients was limited. Works Completed When NLR technicians got to the site, the water had stopped flowing, but there was significant standing water, on floors, ceilings and even in light fixtures. On our first visit, we moved the affected contents and set up the dehumidifiers and air movers to get as much water out of rooms and air as possible. On our return, technicians performed thorough checks to see what still needed drying. In this case, we had to lift many carpets to dry underneath them. This process often means the carpet and underlay can be saved, dramatically reducing costs for the occupant or insurer. Once the rooms were dry, they were wiped down and disinfected as necessary, and final checks were performed to ensure satisfactory results, with all the findings and actions going into a detailed report for the customer.

Fire Damage in a Home

Fire damage procedure Safety Our first concern to address to completing the job was ensuring the safety of all trades and people attending the site. We installed appropriate containment and air filtration devices (AFD) under negative pressure to ensure both safety and secondary damage. Removal of non-recoverable building elements Upon establishing a safe working environment, the removal of non-recoverable building elements was commenced. This is a quick way to progress the fire damage remediation and is necessary to do at the beginning of the restoration. Remediation to all exposed surfaces Fire remediation clean was commenced on all horizontal and vertical surfaces by the use of chem sponges, HEPA vacuuming, and microfibre treatment wiping with appropriate fire cleaning solution. Once completed, a tile clean was also done. Hydroxyl generator treatment The use of a hydroxyl generator ensures the remaining smoke odour is removed.
